FLEXIBLE ANDREAN CATHOLIC EDUCATION (F.A.C.E.)

FLEXIBLE ANDREAN CATHOLIC EDUCATION (F.A.C.E.)THE SCHOOL’S ALTERNATIVE LEARNING MODALITY

St. Andrew’s School implements the Flexible Andrean Catholic Education (F.A.C.E) as its contingency plan in the event that in-person classes are impossible due to disaster, calamities or other situations that warrant its implementation. The F.A.C.E. Program contains the alternative learning modalities that St. Andrew’s School may implement as substitute to in-person classes.

There are two types of alternative learning modalities that the school implements:

  1. Full Online Synchronous Distance Learning

This is the kind of online learning that happens in real time. It means that a virtual class occurs in which the teacher and the students interact virtually in a specific virtual place, through a specific virtual medium, at a specific time.

In SAS, teachers and the students will have their virtual class using a video conferencing platform. The first 30 to 40 minutes will be for teacher instruction or lesson discussion, and the remaining minutes will be spent for answering of textbooks exercises and activities with discussions on the answers by the teacher. The teacher may also upload or assign activities or task through the school’s Learning Management System to be accomplish by the students during full online synchronous distance learning.

  1. Online Asynchronous Distance Learning

In this form of online learning, the teacher may assign pre-recorded video lectures, materials for reading, online worksheets, and online activities to students that they need to watch, accomplish and/or submit to the teacher through the school’s official Learning Management Systems. Teachers will be more flexible on the deadlines of submission in consideration to those students who are having difficulties on their internet connection.

Teachers shall also be available for consultation with students should they have questions or clarifications about the lesson or activity sheets uploaded online. Consultation can be in the form of teleconferencing, or live chatting. In addition, the activities or tasks provided by the teacher online shall serve as formative assessments that in turn serve as basis for the teacher whether to conduct enhancement instructions or learning interventions when in-person classes resume.

In the event of disaster or calamity, the alternative learning modalities under the F.A.C.E. program shall only be implemented when the announcement of the Local Government Unit (LGU) on the suspension of classes stipulates the implementation of Alternative Learning Modalities. Otherwise, in-person or online classes are automatically suspended.

Since these modalities are considered classes when conducted, they are counted as school days in which the attendance of the students are recorded. However, considerations are accorded to students who may be affected be calamities and/or disasters, or for any valid reason.
